An evening away from competition, we welcomed our gust speaker Mr David Steel DPAGB. David presented his journey through India as a photographer. From Delhi to Agra through to Jaipur. We experienced the wondeful sights of The Taj Mahal, the local schools and a traditional Indian wedding with all its colour and glory. The packed roads full of cars, motor bikes, scooters and the occasional cow sunbathing in the sun enjoying the spent fumes of the local traffic.
David also shared his tips on photo cropping and photoshop enhancements. We thank David for a most enjoyable evening.

Why join a camera club?
Almost everyone enjoys taking photographs these days. However if you want to develop your skills and take more satisfying photographs, joining a camera club is an excellent step.
There is a lot of practical help at hand. Most members are only too happy to share their expertise. If there is something you'd like to be able to do, there's probably someone in the club who can help. Informal 'How-to-do-it' sessions could be arranged throughout the new season (if there is a demand). Also, if you are thinking of purchasing equipment, you can usually find some good advice.
An important part of the regular programme is the competitions. Members enter photographs which are assessed by an experienced visiting judge, who will comment on the image and give it a mark. As well as getting direct feedback on your pictures, competitions are a good incentive to keep taking photographs and to work to improve your style and technique.
A much less formal and friendlier way of getting feedback on your photographs is through informal club nights, where we meet for demonstrations & talks by members, at the Community Centre or on Zoom where this is the only option. Your images can be reviewed in a constructive & helpful way, by experienced photographers, and advice, where required, given. This is a great way to start out on the process of improving your photography.
For the more experienced photographer, we have some excellent photographers among the membership, who will provide you with both help and stiff competition!
Details on the club's programme are under the Programme tab.
About the Club
Stowmarket & District Camera Club is a small, active and long established club for those interested in photography. We have a membership of around 30 people with a wide range of ages, backgrounds and photographic interests and we would like to increase that membership.
You don't have to be an 'Expert Photographer' to be welcomed as a member of the Club. All you need is an interest in photography. Our aim is to encourage you to develop your interest and skills, as well as to provide a place to meet a range of friendly people who share your interest. We provide training in a range of subjects.
We run a regular programme of talks, competitions, practical sessions, with some outings and social events.
Regular meetings are held at Stowmarket Community Centre, Hillside, Stowmarket, IP14 2BD, usually on the 2nd & 4th Monday of the month (between September & June) although a small number may be on Zoom. We start at 7:30pm but members start to arrive around 7:00pm. Please see the programme.
Interested in joining?
New members are always very welcome to the club, but they must 16 or over. Come along to a couple of meetings and sample what we have to offer before you decide whether to join. You'll be assured of a warm welcome. Anyone, as well as the committee members, will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
What equipment is needed?
A camera. Any camera. Oh, and a real interest in taking pictures with it.
While the majority of our members probably use Digital SLR cameras, you don't need one to take good photographs. Some of our members take excellent images with compact and bridge cameras.
Membership fees
Our first night of the year is free, so you can see what we do and meet the members. After this you will be asked if you wish to join and the cost will be £40.00 per season (less than £3 per meeting)
Prospective members can attend for £3 per meeting to a maximum of 2 meetings. The amount they pay would then be deducted from the membership fee. The cost of joining is half price if you join after 31st January of the year following the current year.
The Club year starts in September and finishes in June.
